When I examine a client’s history I search for when the problem first occurred, I have found pain, whether physical or emotional, is usually initiated when an event, such as a trauma or an illness has occurred. When a medical evaluation is normal, recurring symptoms such as headaches, abdominal pain, elevated blood pressure or more vague complaints such as fatigue or simply feeling unwell, may occur under stress in a patient whose life experiences are or were painful.

Sleep Difficulties

Difficulty falling asleep and then staying asleep is termed insomnia, and often leaves sufferers feeling irritable and exhausted. Waking too early in the morning is also considered a form of insomnia. The ongoing fatigue and low energy makes getting through the day a struggle and often reduces performance for adults and children alike.

Not being able to sleep after a stressful day or life event would be considered acute insomnia. Chronic insomnia however is characterized by more than three nights per week of lost sleep, lasting three months or longer.
