The Focus On the Positive You is designed for individuals who experience themselves as less valuable than they would like to feel; who devalue themselves and their accomplishments; who continuously find fault with themselves; who characteristically compare themselves to others and generally feel inferior to others.
The workshop encourages each individual to participate in various activities within and outside the sessions which focus on the positive. The workshop activities are prepared to restructure the participants’ thoughts about her- or himself and to accomplish behavioral changes that modify self-concept and reinforce a sense of self-worth.
The group meets at the Comfort Inn & Suites, Geneva, IL.
An adequate amount of room space will be afforded for the participants to remain comfortable.
The workshop is outlined for eight to ten individuals who will meet weekly.
Meetings are weekly. Each session lasting for one hour, though some sessions can continue into 90 minutes. A final follow-up meeting may be needed from four to six weeks following the last meeting to promote continuous improvement and for assessment of each member’s’ change. Encouraging each participant to commit to attending all scheduled meetings is important to the success of the group.
Purpose and Intention
The purpose and intention of this workshop are 1) to teach various approaches that disrupt thoughts of negative characteristics about yourself and 2) to establish motivation that generates better feelings and maintains a higher self-esteem.
As you develop your recognition of the habits of self-criticism. you will prepare to disrupt those habits. Being part of a group expands your viewpoint and strengthens your ability to change through the contributions of your peers. Structured activities during our meeting time will unveil methods for interrupting belittling and deflating habits.
Practice outside of the group utilizes the learning introduced within each meeting. Each week begins with a review of the previous sessions to assess the effects from the previous week.
